Gifts Distributed from the Love for Louisville Old National Bank and Chickasaw Park Survivor Funds
The Community Foundation of Louisville announced that the National Compassion Fund (NCF), the administrator of the Love for Louisville Old National Bank Survivors Fund and the Love for Louisville Chickasaw Park Survivors Fund, has distributed monetary gifts from these funds. The gifts were distributed to survivors and heirs who applied for the gifts and whose presence in the area of eligibility was validated based on the protocols set for each fund.
The Love for Louisville Survivors Funds were established by the Community Foundation of Louisville in partnership with the National Compassion Fund following two mass casualty events which occurred during the week of April 10, 2023, in Louisville, KY. The National Compassion Fund was responsible for the collection and distribution of the dollars.
Following are details of the validation and distribution process:
- Love for Louisville Old National Bank Survivors Fund:
- The Final Protocol was established by a steering committee of local community members and approved after public comment was taken into consideration.
- A total of $934,618.62 was raised through the Love for Louisville Old National Bank Survivors Fund. 100% of the funds have been distributed as gifts to 21 validated survivors and legal heirs of 5 victims.
- Love for Louisville Chickasaw Park Survivors Fund:
- The Final Protocol was established by a steering committee of local community members and approved after public comment was taken into consideration.
- A total of $108,766.72 was raised through the Love for Louisville Chickasaw Park Survivors Fund. 100% of the funds have been distributed apart from one gift still in process to 12 validated survivors and the legal heirs of 2 victims.
“Partnering with the National Compassion Fund gave us a tool to offer community members a way to demonstrate their care and support for people impacted by the traumatic and deadly events at Old National Bank and Chickasaw Park. The IRS limits our Foundation’s ability to provide cash gifts to individuals, so this partnership was essential. Thank you to everyone who responded to our call for support,” said Ramona Dallum, Vice President Community Engagement, Community Foundation of Louisville.
“A tragedy like this often makes victims feel powerless,” said Jeff Dion, Executive Director of the National Compassion Fund, which has assisted victims of many recent atrocities, including those in Buffalo, NY; Uvalde, TX; and Nashville, TN. “We are empowering victims and survivors to decide for themselves how their individual gift can best be used to help them move forward from this terrible event.”
“The generosity of Louisville continues to show up even in our most painful moments,” said Tawanda Owsley, SVP/Chief Development and Marketing Officer, Hosparus Health and Chair, Love for Louisville Steering Committee. “On behalf of the steering committee, it was a pleasure to serve as volunteers on the Love for Louisville Survivors Fund. These funds were designed to provide a little relief to victims of two very tragic events that shook our community. Hopefully, this aid will make a difference in the lives of our fellow community members.”
