Amber Burns-Jones
Amber Burns-Jones joined the Community Foundation of Louisville in July 2024 as the Director of Community Engagement. Amber leads a team of Program Officers focused on the Community Leadership team’s action areas of People, Prosperity, and Well-Being. Amber’s experience lives at the intersection of multiple subject matters but most notably, violence prevention and intervention, healing justice, and food justice. Before joining the Community Foundation, Amber was Assistant Director of the Mayor’s Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods (OSHN). Although she has held several titles over the course of her career, her experience as a community organizer was most impactful and has shaped her view of community, government, and philanthropy. Amber believes in the power of community, for “without community, there is no liberation” (Audre Lorde). She looks forward to strengthening relationships with nonprofits and strategizing on how the Foundation can make the greatest impact with its funding. Amber is a proud lifelong Louisvillian. She earned her BA from the University of Louisville in Pan-African Studies and English. When she is not in the office, Amber loves to read science-fiction novels, commune with her plants, and cook for her beloveds. Amber’s family is her greatest treasure. She is the mother of four beautiful children (two sets of twins) and is happily married to her spouse, Kendrick.
