$12,000 Scholarship is Transforming Lives
For David Do, a sophomore at the University of Louisville, the Vogt Educational & Leadership Scholarship greatly impacted the trajectory of his life.
“This scholarship has opened up the opportunity for me to start off college almost debt free,” said Do, a 2018 JCPS graduate. “With my aspirations of going to medical school and knowing that I will have more tuition to pay later, this is something that will help alleviate future stress, and for that I am thankful.”
Since 2000, the Vogt Educational & Leadership Scholarship has awarded more than $3 million to 308 students from the Jefferson County Public Schools system.
The scholarship recognizes the most accomplished JCPS high school seniors for their academic achievements and leadership in and out of the classroom. For the 2019-2020 academic year, the scholarship award for each student has increased from $10,000 to $12,000. The application is currently open and will close Friday, November 22 at 5 p.m. EST.
This special award was created by Henry V. Heuser Sr., prior to his death in 1999, and established an endowed scholarship fund at the Community Foundation of Louisville. Henry Heuser Jr. says the award honors exceptional students who have demonstrated high standards of scholarship, leadership, character, and citizenship and who “compete with their mind, body and heart.”
Each student winner is selected based on their SAT/ACT scores and cumulative GPAs. But according to Emory Williamson, Scholarship Coordinator at the Community Foundation of Louisville, “Not only does each student excel academically, but each of the recipients demonstrates community and campus leadership, participation in extracurricular activities, and a strong commitment to community service.”
Apply for the Vogt Educational & Leadership Scholarship by November 22 at 5 PM.
